In early November 2023, I opened the electric bill for our main warehouse and said something I don't usually say: "That can't be right."

Are the Dimplex heaters as efficient as a modern heat pump? Probably not, in a technical sense. But when you factor in installation, maintenance, and the fact that we only condition spaces when they're occupied, the total cost of ownership makes sense.
The final number that matters: our utility bill this past December was about 18% lower than the year before. That's one winter's worth of data, not a scientific study. Jury's still out on the full heating season. But the direction feels right.
What I'd tell someone in the same position
First, don't let one big quote scare you into the opposite extreme. Heating is a portfolio decision. You might need a heat pump for the main office and an electric heater for the workshop. That's not a contradiction. That's good judgment.
Second, calculate total cost, not just the sticker price. "Low wattage" isn't a negative if it runs shorter and smarter. Ask about installation, maintenance, hidden fees, and the cost of doing nothing.
Third, trust the vendor who says "this isn't my strength." It's a green flag. We ended up with a mix of Dimplex heaters, a Midea dehumidifier, a local plumber's hot water heater, and no regrets about any of it. Every piece does one job, and does it well.
Someone in the industry described it to me like this: using an online printer for standard business cards is fine, but when you need custom die-cut pieces, you call a local shop. Same logic here. Standard spaces, standard tools. Special situations, specialists.
Not the sexiest heating strategy. But it's honest. And it fits the budget.
